Greek Pharmaceutical Museum

The Pharmaceutical Museum was founded in 2007 and is housed in the office building of the Pharmaceutical Association of Thessaloniki at 173-175 Ethnikis Antistaseos Street in Finikas. The museum offers visitors the opportunity to see rare exhibits and relics related to the pharmaceutical history of Greece from the 15th century onwards. The museum’s collection includes three thousand artefacts that reveal the secrets of pharmaceutical science in Greece. Among the most remarkable exhibits is a book of handmade paper dating to 1598, which is the museum’s oldest exhibit. The book is the collected works of Dioscorides, a prominent Greek physician, pharmacologist, and botanist who lived in the first century CE. In addition, the collection includes prescription books, pharmacy stationery, vials of active ingredients and imposing or elaborate furniture that recall the period when the pharmacy was a multi-purpose health service provider and meeting place for intellectuals.

The Greek Pharmaceutical Museum is open from Monday to Friday, from 8 am to 3 pm. Admission is free.
