Kouri
Kouri was founded at the same time and next to the settlement of Aretsou with the construction of about 75 houses for 229 families in 1929-1930. Most of the houses were duplexes. The original settlers were refugees from Kouri in Asia Minor, Constantinople, and other communities in Asia Minor. The settlement boundaries are formed by the beach and Vathyrryakos, Mikroulea and Pasalidi streets. At the corner of Therapeion and Bithynias streets was the church of Taxiarches, while the children (many of whom were orphans) went to school in Kalamaria or Aretsou. The inhabitants engaged in maritime and commercial occupations or earned a living as labourers. The settlement was home to two well-known doctors (the physician Karamaounas and the paediatrician Mystakidis) and a dentist named Vosmatzidis. The most famous association in Kouri was the sports club “Marathonas” which was founded in 1926 and is still active.
