Back to history of Kalamaria

Every day life

A few kilometers from the city of Thessaloniki, the refugee settlements of Kalamaria since 1940 have now been economically and socially integrated into the city’s fabric. The new houses that replaced the refugee shacks and the strengthened sense of collectiveness of the residents maintained the communication of the Kalamariots both among themselves and with the city of Thessaloniki. Better transport and the creation of a modern urban fabric, together with the emergence of the coastal zone as an urban entertainment center of the whole city, resulting in better working conditions and the economic improvement of the inhabitants, created a pleasant daily life, encouraging the state to contribute to the economic development of Kalamaria and its tourism development.
