Church of Agia Paraskevi
The first church of Nea Krini was housed in a makeshift shack, which soon proved to be inadequate and dangerous. In 1948 a fundraising committee was set up to raise money to construct a new church. The limited financial resources of the inhabitants, mainly fishermen, made it challenging to complete the church and required a fundraising call for material and moral support from various agencies, including the Archdiocese of Athens, the Holy Synod, and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The personal work of the residents and students of Nea Krini accelerated the church’s construction. In the church of Agia Paraskevi, they placed the miraculous icon, which the refugees brought from Çeşme in Asia Minor. On the feast day of Agia Paraskevi, a procession carried the miraculous icon around town. The event was attended by the band of the “Aristotelis” Foundation and many residents and visitors from Thessaloniki who came to Nea Krini by bus or boat.
