Church of Agios Panteleimon in Votsis
At first, Votsis, Vyzantio, and Kifissia residents gathered at the church of Agios Eleftherios in Depot or the church of Agia Paraskevi in the Dalipi camp. But they wanted to establish their parish. The church’s construction began in 1957 after repeated appeals to government ministers and all residents’ work and donations. The church occupied a piece of land belonging to the Social Insurance Institute (IKA). At some point, the authorities ordered the demolition of the building since it was illegal. When the time came, the church bells began ringing, and the people gathered in front of the machines to prevent them from completing their work. Eventually, IKA agreed to give the residents a plot across the street. The operation of the church of Agios Panteleimon began on April 1, 1960.
