The mother of the donors, Eleni Karaiosifidou, founded 1924 the “Refugee Phoenix” charity association. The union dealt with “distributing nutritious food to all the needy refugees and locals.” By 1932, 34 branches were established, including Kalamaria, Aretsou and N. Krini. This activity continued until 1939, when the Metaxas dictatorship abolished the union.
